grassfedart offers the artist and artisan full-time exposure, regional focus, and global access; it creates synergy across varied disciplines: sculptors discover inspiration in paintings, painters in photography, photographers in poetry...
Our regional focus places every artist, artisan, and art venue (gallery, fair, school, or museum) in a geographical context. This allows visitors to discern the influence that location imposes on art. For fans, regional focus offers a chance to support artists and artisans in their neighborhood; to amplify the vibrancy of their local art scene. Type in the name of any village, town, or city, and you’ll see which region it’s a part of, and all of the artists, artisans, galleries, schools, fairs, museums, and events that comprise the scene in that region.
grassfedart will also bring visitors daily news updates of global art doings -- news items culled from newspapers, art journals, and blogs. The calendar of events will present a fresh and relevant menu of happenings to see and do.
grassfedart encourages artists, artisans, visitors, gallery owners -- everyone -- to vote their approval of work that delights or provokes them. So, the cream always floats to the top. But the vote results are never revealed -- no artist or artisan needs to have the whole world see how many votes they did or didn’t get -- higher ranked works simply float to the top of category lists (without showing vote totals). And new arrivals get a chance, too: a work’s votes eventually expire. So, new selections can reach the same pinnacle as earlier arrivals. To further enhance exposure, artists, artisans, gallery owners, fairs, schools and museums can “feature” a work or event either in their own region, or globally. This places that image, or event listing on the home page for a specified period. The cost is nominal: $2 locally, $4 globally per week (discounted if you buy more than two weeks). more info: Featured Images, Events, Video & Music As an expression of our gratitude to you for signing up with us, we give you a free four-week feature of a photo, video, or event of your choice -- check your artist or venue approval notice when it arrives by e-mail.
Read our blogs and forums, too. In the blog, members are encouraged to share thoughtfully composed essays; or, post comments, critiques, and queries in the forums.
Finally, artists, artisans, and galleries can sell their work on grassfedart. We charge a 10% commission after customer shipping and PayPal fees are deducted. PayPal charges 2.9% + $1.30 for each transaction. We hope our members and visitors can see clear to grant us that commission. We anticipate only modest proceeds, and grassfedart represents a significant undertaking -- it is comprised of over 30,000 lines of software code -- lots of moving parts that require ongoing maintenance. Help us keep them moving by occasionally featuring and selling your work here. By the way, we do not require an exclusive -- folks who see your work on the site can visit your studio or gallery and buy it there, or you can sell your work on another site -- but we hope you will stick with us when you can. We’re depending on it.
Our aim is to enhance and invigorate the art scene, promote interdisciplinary inspiration, and bring a little much needed prosperity to the visionaries who make life meaningful and culture worth preserving. Oh, one last thing: our site is powered by green, renewable energy -- we buy Renewable Energy Credits to offset our electricity consumption. So, every watt we burn comes from a clean, renewable source. Join us!
