gfa FAQ

Q: My English is not so good. Is there a translation?

A: Yes. Select a language in the Google Translate Translate box on the right/top of the home page and blog, or on the left/bottom of the menu on all the other pages.

Q: Why “grassfed” art?

A: Our name is meant to suggest art sourced from natural, organic, fertile fields; a certain niche appeal; and quality -- plus, we like the sound of it. BTW, the guy who coined it is a vegetarian.

Q: There are lots of sites like this, what’s so great about grassfedart?

A: Well, here’s our top 10 reason why we think you’ll like us:

1.  We encourage media to mingle, artists and artisans, that is, grassfedart includes:

·        Visual Arts

·        Music

·        Film

·        Writing

·        Crafts

Everybody’s here, so we hope everyone will find inspiration here, too.

2.  We let you focus on specific regions of the world, so you can see how art is evolving as a function of place: how the where affects the what. Type in the name of any village, town, or city, and you’ll see what region it’s a part of. If you’re an artist or artisan, you can find others near you, and maybe even meet them -- we’re social animals, after all. If you’re a fan, by narrowing in on a region you can find out what’s going on where you live, or where you travel. And, artist, artisan, or fan, it’s cool to zoom out and see what’s happening everywhere at once, and then drop into a distant city, and check out the scene. We think place means a lot -- and you’ll get it, along with synergy, inspiration, and all that -- at grassfedart.

3.  grassfedart is well organized and easy to navigate. We’ve noticed some “busy-ness” problems on other sites and tried to fix them here. Let us know what you think.

4.  grassfedart includes -- in our collection of art venues -- art schools and museums along with galleries, artists, and artisans. It’s not just about selling. We want to promote the WHOLE art community. And if you zoom into a specific region, you can see the whole art collective at once for that place, including events at galleries, schools, and museums and fairs.

5.  grassfedart includes events, as mentioned above. So, you can get out of the house and support you local art institutions, schools, and galleries -- do it, they need you! Event listings on our calendar page are free, by the way, and they can be featured on the home page for a nominal fee (US$2 for a region, US$4 globally, discounted if you buy more than two weeks) Any image can be featured in the home page slideshow, too. more info: Featured Images, Events, Video & Music

6.  Our commission is a reasonable 10% -- ultimately, the artist, artisan, or gallery will pay about 14 percent, including PayPal fees. We recommend that you adjust your pricing accordingly. For example, for a work that sells for $100, the breakdown would be as follows:

Fee

Cost

Paypal purchase transaction fee: 2.9% + $0.30

$3.20

Paypal payment transfer fee (from grassfedart to the seller’s account): 2%, $1.00 maximum

$1.00

Total Paypal fees:

$4.20

grassfedart commission: 10%

$9.58

seller receives:

$86.22

Fees % of total:

13.8%

7.  We do not charge annual fees. If you don’t sell stuff, you don’t pay. And, you can list works that are marked “Not For Sale” or “Sold,” or set the available quantity to zero --so visitors can still see your work, but they can’t purchase it through us, and you will incur no fees.

8.  We don’t have “Premium” memberships -- we are a classless society, everyone plays in the same sandbox, and gets the same exposure.

9.  Everyone gets a vote: users can click the “thumbs up” button for works they like. Each vote moves a work higher in its specific category while keeping the vote total confidential -- no embarrassment here if you don’t have any votes on your work yet. But, to give new artists and artisans a fair shot, votes eventually expire. So, the new guy can make it to the top, too. Or, the old gal can stay there, if she continues to get new votes.

10.                   There are no limits on the number of works an artist, artisan, gallery, school, fair, or museum can list. The same goes for events. grassfedart offer more exposure opportunities than other sites. And, in the end, it’s all about exposure. So there: 10 good reasons. Now, give us a chance.

Q: How does an artist, like me, get started?

A: Easy. Create a user id by clicking on “Sign Up/Sign In” at the bottom of the home page. Select “Sign Up,” and fill in the little form that pops up. Keep in mind that there can be only one user ID per e-mail -- you can’t sign up more than once (why would you want to?). more info: http://www.grassfedart.com/Wordpress/?p=206

Q: How does an artist/artisan/gallery get paid when a work is sold?

A: If you want to sell your work (or another's via a gallery) on our site, you’ll need a PayPal account that is assigned to the same e-mail you used in your artist or gallery registration. It’s not a big deal, signing up only takes a minute (visit: http://www.paypal.com). When you sell something, your money will automatically, immediately, be transferred to your PayPal account. You are responsible for shipping to the customer, and handling returns if necessary.

Q: What happens after I create my user ID? How do I create a public artist/artisan listing?

A: If you signed up as an artist (selected “Artist” from the list of choices on the sign-up page), then you will see a button on your profile page labeled, “Register An Artist.” Click it. Fill in all of the pertinent details of your art life. After you click submit, you’ll have to wait a bit before your information goes public -- we approve each new listing, and we reserve the right to reject work that doesn’t feel like a good fit for the grassfedart groove (mostly we approve, rarely do we disapprove). While you wait, go to your Profile page and click, “Edit Your Artist Information and Content.” Click “Your Work” to add works to your listing. (Please add at least one work prior to approval so we can have a look at what you do.) Also on this page, you can upload photos, videos, or a logo for your public listing, or list events that you’ll be participating in. As soon as you are approved, your content will be visible to everyone.

You can find the whole signup / artist registration procedure described in detail here how an artist gets started on grassfedart

Q: I’ve got a gallery I want to list (or an art fair, or school, or museum). How do I create a listing?

A: It’s almost the same as for an artist or artisan (see above), except when you create your user ID, you will sign up as a manager of a gallery, school, art fair, or museum. This will give you the privilege of listing your venue, and adding artists or artisans as part of your listing. You can either list artists or artisans already registered with grassfedart, (with their permission, of course) or, you can register them yourself, and manage their info from your venue page. So, create a user ID (be sure to select the correct type: gallery manager, art fair manager, etc.), and then go back to your profile page, and you can edit your gallery, art fair, school, or museum info from there.

Q: This all sounds complicated. Is it?

A: It’s more complicated to put into words than it is to get done. Try writing down all the steps required to make an omelet -- there’s more to it than breaking eggs. But, this is easy -- especially if you’re not afraid to jump in the sandbox and play. And remember, if you get stuck, send us an e-mail from the “contact” link at the bottom of every page, and we’ll help you out. Any mistake can be undone. Plus, we love to hear your opinions about the site, or news of a freshly uncovered bug in our code (which we’ve tried hard to avoid!). So, shoot us your questions and comments and we’ll give you the satisfaction of a reply as quick as we can.

Q: What’s with the bulletin board link at the bottom of the page?

A: It’s for inexpensive advertising of stuff for sale -- or free. Any registered user can list an item there. The pricing goes like this: $1 for 24 hours, $5 for one week, or $17 for one month. Categories make searching easier. So, have at it, sell your old junk. One day, it will be part of a sculpture.

Q: What if I recently inherited a fortune from my good Uncle Willy, and I want to unload some of it? Or, you think grassfedart has changed your world, and you want to contribute to the change?

A: Good question. You could invest Uncle Willy's money in mortgage-backed securities, but we think a better investment would be grassfedart. Click on the “Donate” button if you’re ready to help us survive. Even a buck will let us know you care. (Thanks!)
