Art Confronts Border Fence in South Texas

A collection of art protesting the border fence hangs in a downtown Brownsville gallery feet from the newly erected riverfront obstacle.

The exhibition, "Art Against the Wall," hung Sunday on the fence itself for several hours before later moving into the nearby gallery of local artist and project organizer Mark Clark.

Friction over young photography whiz's art

The elders at Ecclesia Church were expecting something tame from Jackson Potts II for their annual Stations of the Cross art display.

Instead, the 10-year-old produced a photo of his kid brother being beaten by a police officer. Jackson says it's a modern-day interpretation of Roman soldiers beating Jesus.

There's an art walk the second Saturday of every month in downtown Long Beach. Tuesday night in City Hall, there's going to be an art sit.

The galleries are expected to be packed with local artists and their supporters who will be pushing for the City Council to enact five measures that are intended to make things better for the local arts community.

«KuKuK - das sind zehn Jahre Kunstgechichte durch Ehrenamt. Auch unser damaliger Check-Point-Charly am Köpfchen konnte dadurch erhalten bleiben. Alle haben mitgespielt und mit der Stadt Aachen gab es stets eine hervorragende Zusammenarbeit», betonte Hans-Dieter Laschet, Bürgermeister von Raeren.

FUNDACIÓN MAPFRE convoca y organiza el III Concurso Nacional de Dibujo Infantil para niños con Discapacidad con el objetivo de contribuir de forma desinteresada a la integración social de este colectivo.

En esta tercera edición podrán participar todos los niños hasta 14 años que pertenezcan a asociaciones que desarrollan actividades con niños discapacitados dentro del ámbito nacional. Cada participante podrá presentar un dibujo que deberá ser original e inédito y que no haya obtenido hasta el momento ningún premio en otros certámenes.

Each spring, a nation-wide high school arts competition is sponsored by the Members of the U.S. House of Representatives. The Artistic Discovery Contest is an opportunity to recognize and encourage the artistic talent in the nation, as well as in each Congressional District.

The Artistic Discovery Contest is open to all high school students. The over-all winner of each district will be displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol.

Getty joins Sicilian officials to launch art collaboration

LOS ANGELES—The J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles and the Sicilian cultural ministry will collaborate to conserve art objects, stage exhibitions and conduct scholarly research.

Sicilian museums will lend marble statues and ancient vases to the Getty Museum and the museum's preservation staff will use their expertise in creating displays that protect the artwork from earthquakes, said Getty spokeswoman Rebecca Taylor.

Napa agrees to collect fee for city art

Let the beautification of Napa begin.

Private developers and the city itself will now be required to set aside 1 percent of the cost of new buildings for public art, the Napa City Council voted unanimously Tuesday night.

As the economy improves and builders start building again, residents can expect an explosion in public art, both in downtown and around town, council members said.

Southampton City Council had planned to sell work by French sculptor Auguste Rodin and British painter Sir Alfred Munnings.
